26th Annual Pittsburgh Ultimate Summer
League
What:
Our annual summer league is an Ultimate Frisbee recreational league consisting
of 24 co-ed teams. Each team will follow the standard 5 M / 2 F format, which
requires that 5 men and 2 women be on the field at all times. Teams will
compete against each other in pool play games and play-offs. The league ends
in a final one-day tournament where Summer League Champions will be crowned.
When:
This year's co-ed summer league will take place on Saturdays in
June, July & August, plus another 4 games per team on weeknights
throughout the season. You will play up to 13 regular season games
plus a full playoff bracket asa final tournament. The league begins
with a kickoff Saturday during which you will get to pick up your
gear, meet your teammates, and practice together before playing your
first game that same day.
Schedule:
Each team will have nine Saturday games and four weeknight games as
part of the regular season. There are then play-in games for the
bottom sixteen teams, and the season ends with a one-day finals
tournament where each team has two more games.
The Saturday game schedule is:
- June 7 - Kickoff and First game
- June 14 / June 28 / July 12 / July 19 - More Games
- August 2 - Play-ins / August 9 - Final Tournament
Weeknight games will vary depending on your team. These games are
on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from June 30th
through July 31st. Each team will have approximately one weeknight
game in each of those weeks.

How are teams determined?
Our summer league uses a draft to create teams. Each team will have
a male and female captain pair who will choose players through a
ranked drafting procedure. This helps to have an even distribution
of experienced and novice players on each team. The draft will take
place approximately a week before games begin. After the draft your
captains will contact you to let you know which team you are on, and
your game schedule. (If you want to sign up with a friend, and want
to make sure you play on the same team, when you register, make sure
you list your friend as "baggage.")
How do I register?
On-line registration opens at 8PM on SUNDAY APRIL 27th and
ends 8PM on MONDAY MAY 19th. There will be a late on-line
registration period from 10PM Monday, May 19 to 10PM Thursday, May
22. After May 22, absolutely no registrations will be accepted. The
on-line registration process is only part of what you need to do to
be eligible to participate in the league. You must also submit all
requisite payments and paperwork to be eligible.
This year there will be a CAP on the number of players participating in the
league, so register early. If you wait and register during the late
registration period, you might not get a chance to play in the league.
For more detailed instructions on registration, view the registration information page
Why is there a cap?
The growth in the number of men playing in Summer League has outpaced the
growth of the number of women. Although increasing the number of summer league
teams would accommodate the greater number of male participants, this year, we
do not feel we will get the required number of female participants to warrant
such an increase. As a result, we have chosen to institute a cap on the number
of male players. Without the cap, we feel that the playing time for the men
would be inadequate and would decrease enjoyment of the league. So, register
early, get us your registration fee, and completed waiver as soon as you can
to guarantee yourself a spot in this year's Summer League.
Final Tournament Participation:
For this league, in order to participate in finals, a player must attend 25%
of their team's regular season games. Based upon this year's expected
schedule, this number will be 3 games. If you attend fewer than 3 games, you
are not allowed to play in finals.
